Michel Chapoutier is négociant and winemaker most well known for his Northern Rhône wines, specifically from Hermitage, but also Cote-Rôtie, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Saint Joseph, among others. The history of the Chapoutier family stretches back to the early nineteenth century when Michel’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius made history in the region when he became the first grape grower there to vinify his own fruit. Now Michel, a visionary and pioneer in biodynamic winemaking, with the most 90+ point ratings of all Rhône producers and 16 "100 point" rated wines, has taken to Latour-de-France in the Languedoc, about as close you can get to Spain while still being in France, in an attempt to make wines that are the truest expressions of the terroir, under his new label, "Bila-Haut."
